Nicholas accompanied Samuel Marsden in his visit from New South Wales to New Zealand's Bay of Islands in 1814. "Nicholas's description, of the crowded days, the meetings with the leading chiefs, the short journeys, with his full impressions of Maori culture of the greatest value. His narrative, told in standard 18th century prose, is a useful parallel to the more volatile but succinct and direct record kept by Marsden." - Reference: Bagnall 4268. ; 8vo
