Some bruising and rubbing to edges of boards. 1/2" loss of cloth along the edge of the top corner of the front board. 1/4" chip to cloth at lower corner of rear board. Internally good. No signatures. Some small dampstains to inner margins of some leaves and plates. Complete. ; First English edition, preceding the American edition. Overall still a nice copy of this classic account of a woman from the West's intrepid odyssey to Tibet. ; First edition, preceding the US edition. xviii, [ii], 310 pages + frontispiece + 43 illustrations on 15 plate leaves. Black cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine, and an attractive gilt illustration of the Potala Palace, Lhasa on the front board. Page dimensions: 219 x 137mm.
