Ex-Libris label of Dr CNS McLachlan on front pastedown endpaper. Gutters cracked at hinges. Some rubbing and bumping to ends of spine. Tears up to 1/4" to cloth along ends of spine. Some foxing to folding maps. Volume One: most maps up to 1" tear at inner margins. Volume Two: 4 1/2" tear to edge of Western Australia map. 2" tear to margin of South Australia map. 3" and 1 1/2" tear to inner margin of New Zealand map.; Two volumes. The second issue, issued without half-title leaves (see Bagnall 5621). Volume One: (iii)-vi, 533 pages + colour frontispiece map + 3 colour folding maps (Queensland; New South Wales; Victoria). Volume Two: (iii)-vi, [2], 516 pages + 4 colour folding maps (Tasmania; Western Australia; South Australia; New Zealand). Green cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Ex-Libris label on front pastedown, "Dr. Corrie McLachlan." Lacking the folding map of New Zealand. Front board of Volume Two detached. Rear board of Volume Two nearly detached. All hinges broken on both volumes. Folding maps in good only condition, most of the maps having short tears along the folds and at the intersections of the folds. Cloth worn with losses at spine ends. Text blocks in good condition. Early owner's signature on half-title page of Volume One. Unrelated newspaper clipping on front free endpaper of Volume Two. A rough set for rebinding or as a rough working copy. ; Second Edition. This set has "Second Edition" printed on the title page of the second volume only, and no colophon on the verso of the title leaf of the second volume, while Volume One does not have "Second Edition" on the title, and still has the colophon on the verso of the title leaf [c.f. Bagnall 5622 "Apparently a reissue of the first edition with new title page tipped in. Lacks colophon on verso of title pages."] Volume One: vi, 533 pages + colour frontispiece map + 3 colour folding maps in pocket at rear (Queensland; New South Wales; Victoria). Volume Two: vi, [2], 516 pages + 3 of 4 colour folding maps (Tasmania; Western Australia; & South Australia; lacking the map of New Zealand). The map of Tasmania is bound in facing page 1, the other two maps are in a pocket the rear. Brown cloth boards with gilt lettering oand decoration on spine. Blind-tooled and black decoration to boards. Page dimensions: 218 x 139mm. Dust wrapper protected in archival mylar cover. ; This is number 77 of the first edition of 1,550 numbered copies signed by the editor A. H. Reed. This copy is also inscribed by A. H. Reed to Miss N. Mercer on the title page, dated 1969. 156 pages. Red papered boards. Page dimensions: 215 x 138mm. With several illustrations and two maps. This book is an edition of Trollope's writing on New Zealand from his 1873 publication "Australia and New Zealand". It has a five page introduction by A. H. Reed, related material reprinted from the Auckland newspaper the "Daily Southern Cross", and a three page footnote by Captain Gilbert Mair.; 8vo
