Front and rear free endpapers pasted down to boards. ; This enlarged edition of the "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater" was published as Volume Five of the collected edition of De Quincey, "Selections Grave & Gay". xv, [1], 290 pages. The "Confessions" are on pages 1-275, followed by "The Daughter of Lebanon" on pages 276-282 and an "Appendix" on pages 283-290. Contains the original preface for the 1821 edition, along with a new preface to the edition here published. "When it had been settled that, in the general series of these republications, the "Confessions of an English Opium-Eater" should occupy the Fifth Volume, I resolved to avail myself most carefully of the opening thus made for a revision of the entire work." - from the new preface.
