Postally used in New Zealand circa 1905-1910, but the stamp has been removed. 1/4" tear. Moderate creasing and rubbing to corners. Some foxing.; No date (c. 1905-1910?). The message written on the back reads "Which kitten do you think this is most like. I will be home on Friday."; 24mo 5" - 6" tall

Spine cloth torn along lower 5" of the front joint. Fraying to cloth at ends of spine. A 3" adhesive tape repair across lower end of spine. Edges of boards heavily rubbed with loss of paper along the edges and margins. Corners of boards heavily worn, rubbed, and rounded. The frontispiece illustration has a 4" tear with an adhesive sellotape repair on the reverse side. Also a 1 3/4" tear to the lower inner corner of the frontispiece, again with an old sellotape repair on the reverse side. The sellotape repairs to the frontispiece have caused adhesive tape staining to the paper of the frontispiece, and also to the neighbouring region of the front free endpaper. An early owner's inscription on the front endpaper - "To Patti with Love from Auntie May", beneath which is another recent inscription - "(a family friend) about 1924". No other inscriptions or marginalia. Gutters broken at hinges. ; Illustrated papered boards with red cloth spine. Full colour illustrations by Louis Wain on both the front and rear boards. Also with a full colour frontispiece, and many duotone (i.e. black with one other colour) and b&w illustrations, all by Louis Wain. Louis Wain is an artist famous for his expressive cat illustrations. Page dimensions: 257 x 195mm. [Bibliographical Reference: Stead, W. T. (ed.) "The Review of Reviews.
