2 McHutcheson, William Camp-Life in Fiordland, New Zealand: a Tale of the Sutherland Falls
Wellington Lyon & Blair / Government Printer 1892 First Edition Original Cloth Fair with no dust jacket Signed by Author
Some splits to cloth along joints. Some chips to cloth at ends of spine and at corners of boards. Front hinge broken. Lacking the folding map at the rear (only a few small pieces of the map are present). First leaf of advertisements detached and loose. Some old adhesive tape stains to the title page and to the card of pseudonym correspondences which was formerly taped down to the title page. Small ink stain to title page. Wrinkles to cloth on front and rear boards. ; This copy is of particular interest because on both the rear free endpaper and on a piece of card someone (the handwriting is not McHutcheson's) has written out in ink the actual identities of several characters referred to within this travel narrative only by pseudonyms, hence "Clericus" is the Rev. S. R. Fellows, "Editor + Pilgrim" is Mr Galloway, & "Rob Roy" is Mr George Robertson. This copy is also inscribed by the author to the wife of one of these characters, "To Mrs Alex Galloway / In memory of my dear friend 'Pilgrim' with the author's kind regards, WMcH". [4] pages advertisements + ix, [1], 134, [2] pages + frontispiece + 14 plates + [16] pages advertisements + publisher's slip. Lacking the folding map at the rear. Green cloth boards with blind-stamped borders. Gilt lettering on front board. Page dimensions: 215 x 135mm.
