Previous owner's insciption dated 1932 on front endpaper. Dust-jacket spine with small dampstain, and 30mm abrasion causing loss to some letters in "Mawson". A 1" tear at corner of dust-jacket. Small 1/2" tears and 3/8" chips at head of dust-jacket spine. Dust-jacket is price-clipped. Dust-jacket protected in archival mylar cover.; "Abridged Popular Edition". First printing of this abridged edition, uncommon in dust-jacket. xxxi, [1], 438 pages + frontispiece + 91 illustrations + 18 in-text diagrams and maps + 3 folding maps. Blue boards with gilt lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 236 x 157mm. "In this edition of 'The Home of the Blizzard' it has been my endeavour to present a connected narrative of the Expedition in a less expensive and more concentrated form than in the large two-volume work. The account has been made even more popular by the retention of only such matter as is of general interest. This has necessitated the re-writing of certain sections and the revision of the whole." - from the author's preface.
