This 1948 edition has a new nine page Introduction by the author dated April 1946. xxi, [3], 380 pages + frontispiece + 49 illustrations on plate leaves + folding colour map at rear. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 215 x 138mm. Top page edges dyed red. "This work was extensively reived by the author shortly before his death, and includes much new material.
