Chips missing to upper left margins of leaves on several gazettes, without loss of text. ; Volume I, Numbers 10-22, 24-26 + 6 pages of the index leaves for the years 1847-1848. Dimensions: 13 1/4" by 8 1/4". Pagination (53) -88, [2], (93)-118, 127-139 + 6 pages of index. From 1846 until 1853 the whole of the South Island and the part of the North Island south of the Patea River, including Wellington, formed the Province of New Munster. This is a run of 16 issues of the offical government gazette for this province, and a fairly early example of New Zealand printing. On page 139 the area previously known as Otakou is given its new official name of Otago. The gazettes contain a wealth of contributions from notables such as Alfred Domett, Colonial Secretary; Sir George Grey; Donald McLean; J. Fitzgerald & others. ; Folio 13" - 23" tall
