Three unbound parts, as issued. Chips and tears to margins of front wrapper. Part IV lacking the rear paper wrapper. Chips to margin of rear wrapper of Part V. Suitable for binding into a bound volume. Inside rear wrapper of Part V has a "Note Regarding Binding"- "Binding Cases for the Volume (now completed) may be had from the Publishers. They are of Art Canvas, and handsomely decorated with Maori designs, blocked in gold. Price, 4s. 6d. Part III is printed 1898, Part IV printed 1899, and Part V has a date of 1900 on the title leaf and of 1901 on the front wrapper. This work was originally published in 5 parts, the first part in 1896 and the fifth in 1900. A fire destroyed most copies of the first printing of Part Five, but according to Bagnall "a second printing was made soon afterwards".
