Binding poor. Hinges broken. Binding shaken and loose. Lacking final leaf advertisements and rear free endpaper. Some pencil scribbles on rear board, pencil arithmetic on front endpaper. 3" tear to half-title leaf. ; No date [c1893]. xviii, [2], 326 pages + [4 (of 6)] pages advertisements + 12 plates (including frontispiece). Green cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine and front board. Gilt star decorations to spine. Dark red illustrations to spine and both boards. All page edges gilt. Illustrations by James Torrance. Green illustrated endpapers with the header "Fairy and Other Tales". Page dimensions: 181 x 118mm. The advertisements include a full page advertisement for "Dramatic Essays" edited by William Archer and Robert W. Lowe, the advertisement stating "will be issued, in three volumes". The "Dramatic Essays" were published 1894-1896, hence this volume likely dates from c1893. The many fairy tales in this volume are grouped into the follow sections: The Trooping Fairies; The Solitary Fairies; Ghosts; Witches, Fairy Doctors; Tyeer-Na-N-Oge; Saints, Priests; The Devil; Giants; Kings, Queens, Princesses, Earls, Robbers.
