Rebound in 20th century in 19th century style half leather and marbled papered boards. Later endpapers. Pages all very clean. The leaves appear to have been washed, removing most of the marbling from the page edges. Blind-stamp on title page of each volume: "St. Johnsbury Athenaeum 1870". No other institutional markings. Volume Two with 40mm tear and small chips to final leaf of index, with loss of a few letters of text on page 480. The missing letters have been written in pencil in the margin.
